Walk So Kids Can Talk

On May 1st 2011, a very special event will be taking place across Canada. It’s the 10th annual Walk For Kids Help Phone, and if you haven’t heard of the Walk, or the cause, let me fill you in on it… The Kids Help Phone has been around for over 20 years, and to put it quite simply, they are the ones who will be there for any kid at any time in any place, who just needs to talk. Kids today face so many challenges in their lives – much, much more than any adult today can imagine. Whenever a child needs to talk, they can call 1-888-668-6868 and just talk. And someone will always be there to listen. Having a resource like the Kids Help Phone is incredibly important for communities across Canada. The walk itself is important for 2 reasons: 1) Obviously it’s one of the biggest fundraisers for the Kids Help Phone, and 2) It’s so important to let kids know that the Kids Help Phone is there for them. Always. According to the Walk For Kids Help Phone website:

  • 100% of young people will experience sadness, frustration, grief, stress… How they are supported is what counts
  • At Kids Help Phone, 30 per cent of the calls our professional counsellors receive relate to significant mental health issues
  • In Canada, 3.2 million youth are at risk for developing depression
  • 1 in 5 kids under the age of 17 has a mental health disorder that affects their lives at home, school, or within their community.

So on Sunday May 1st, consider taking part in this important event for our kids.  Walk So Kids Can Talk.  Registration is free and there is no minimum amount to fundraise.  Walks are being held across Canada, and in BC (home of FabooshWorld) walk sites include Vancouver, Nanaimo, Sunshine Coast, the Okanagan and the Fraser Valley.  Please take a moment to check out the Walk For Kids Help Phone website and join your community to help the kids.
